This is also a record of some trivial life matters. By the time I actually sat down to write this weekly journal, the National Day holiday had already ended. However, this National Day was quite fulfilling, allowing me to truly relax. (It wasn't just about watching a few movies)
Life Record - Beginning of the National Day Holiday#
This record unfolds along a timeline, with the first half of the week being work and the latter half being the National Day holiday. Unlike previous years, this time I went straight home without traveling anywhere else, spending the entire time at home. In previous years, I would have gone to comic conventions or other places. This year, perhaps because I was too tired, I decided to just go home and take it easy for a while.
Monday - Skipping Work#
Because I was a bit too exhausted from last weekend, I skipped work and took a day off. However, even while on leave, I didn't do much; I just played through a chapter of a Fire Emblem spin-off in the morning. I felt like I was in a daze all day and couldn't recover from my internal exhaustion.
Tuesday - At Work#
Focused on work. The work content is "secret."
Wednesday - Going Home#
- To avoid peak travel, I went home that afternoon. Coincidentally, it was my mom's birthday, and it seems like it was the first time in years that I celebrated her birthday on the actual day, having a meal together. I finally remembered when my mom's birthday is, which is two days before the Mid-Autumn Festival.
- Gave my dad my iPhone SE2. My dad has two WeChat and QQ accounts, and the previous Xiaomi phone couldn't elegantly run both. It was another day shocked by Android phone ads, so I gave him the long-unused iPhone SE2 to let him experience the iOS system. However, since this phone is from the US region, it requires a US SIM card to unlock before using other SIM cards. (I haven't solved this issue yet; for now, my dad is using it without a SIM card).
Thursday - IPTV - Tears of the Dragon#
- Went to the service center in the morning to upgrade my home broadband plan to fiber and add IPTV service. The 90 yuan plan from Unicom includes 500M broadband + 3 phone cards with 50G data + IPTV, while the 78 yuan plan from Mobile only offers about 20G of data, which is really disappointing. However, this ended up being a mess; I didn't know there were multiple service options for IPTV, and the one I chose only had CCTV and satellite channels, without any local Guangdong live channels.
- Organized and published the previous article about writing, completing the KPI for the article I was supposed to publish on Wednesday. After that, I didn't write anything else during the holiday at home.
- Triggered the Tears of the Dragon storyline in "Tears of the Kingdom" for the first time. When I opened the save file, I happened to be standing in front of a Tears of the Dragon point, and upon clicking in, I saw footage sent by the past Zelda. This made me realize the role of Tears of the Dragon as a main quest, which is to complete the storyline of Zelda's timeline.
- Worked late into the night until 1 AM for a meeting, as there were some urgent tasks that needed to be completed before the National Day holiday. However, after some back and forth, I ultimately chose to delay and handle it after the holiday. During this time, I played "Lawyer with a Sharp Tongue" for my parents; they started to doze off while watching, leaving half of it to the next day.
Friday - Mid-Autumn Festival#
- Collected all the Tears of the Dragon and unlocked the full map. The reason I had such a hard time playing before was that I hadn't followed the storyline and missed the main quest for Tears of the Dragon. However, what I didn't expect was that this would be my last connection to "Tears of the Kingdom" during this holiday. After this, I didn't touch the game again. The original goal for this holiday was to conclude the topic of "Tears of the Kingdom," thinking I could write a series of articles on "The Hundred Sceneries of Hyrule."
- Had a big meal at home with crabs. I bought the crabs, and for the first time, I remembered the differences between the various types of crabs. Is autumn the season for eating crabs? I had them twice during this holiday.
- Watched "La La Land" in the evening. My parents said they couldn't stand English movies, so I found a foreign film with an easy-to-understand plot. The male lead joined a modern jazz band, and now when I think of jazz bands, I think of MyGO!!!!! and NANA.

Saturday#
- Installed the network cable in the morning, only to find that the installed IPTV didn't meet expectations. In the afternoon, I went back to the service center to apply for a new IPTV service. I think I’ll just get an Apple TV during the spring holiday; I don't want to deal with so many issues.
- Watched the first 4 episodes of "Furillian's Funeral". Furillian's OP surprisingly became popular in this way, and Bilibili suddenly had a lot of fan-made OPs for Furillian. It seems everyone wants to forget and then perform a new OP. When I first clicked on the video, I was a bit confused, but I couldn't pinpoint what was off. After reading others' comments, I realized it was probably this feeling: "In a story where both sides are expressionless and super calm, a forced electronic dance music OP comes in." It was indeed impressive, and despite that, I still quite like this work. By the way, I discovered that the anime omitted two details compared to the manga. The first is that the hero's room 50 years later is older than the surrounding city houses, possibly so that Furillian could still recognize it upon returning. The second is that the stone Furillian hit was actually larger and farther than it appeared. These two details lacked key shots in the anime, which I think is a bit of a shame.
- Watched "The Revenant" in the evening. My dad said it was a horror movie, and it seems he was quite scared. No wonder it’s a work by Leo, so realistic that you can feel the pain outside the screen. What struck me the most was the casual death of the Native American who saved the protagonist's life. This was my second time watching it, but I still found many descriptions lacking in the movie. I later realized that I was missing knowledge about the history of the founding of America, which made it hard for me to understand how the conflict between white settlers and Native Americans escalated step by step. This history is probably well-known in the US and the West, which is why I always felt that the film "missed something."
(Bilibili search results for "Furillian OP")
Sunday - National Day#
- Had dim sum in the morning: Mainly chatted with relatives, but I had almost no topics to discuss with them. I realized that after three years of work, I still hadn't met any high school classmates in person. Indeed, in recent years, whenever I go home, I basically stay indoors.
- Started playing "Baldur's Gate 3": I spent four consecutive afternoons from the 1st to the 4th playing "Baldur's Gate 3," during which many interesting things happened. I’ll write about this in the next weekly report. I actually think the best experience for this type of game is to have an experienced player guide us; I really know nothing about the DND universe. At first, when I encountered an NPC who died, I planned to reload to save them, regardless of whether they were good or bad, even wanting to save the Mind Flayer. I was really too much of a goody two-shoes. However, compared to my goody two-shoes nature, I found it hard to understand why some people didn't invite Shadowheart into their party. Also, there were characters I should have killed, and I originally thought goblins were just goblins.
Some Thoughts#
Why I Like Characters in Works#
I bring up this topic because of the cool Dana, who is the bar owner in "VA-11 Hall-A." I want to say I really like this character, but then I think, why do I only like fictional characters? This should relate to the definition of the topic of beauty arising from distance, right? These days, even fictional characters can fall from grace, which is quite something. (For details, see the 2.5 Tōru Watanabe incident)
Of course, the key issue here is with myself. I think this is about me liking an abstract person rather than a concrete one.
Actually, this question indirectly asks myself why I escape from reality. All along, I have been escaping into that virtual online world without paying more attention to the people around me. Liking a concrete person means you need to endure. I only posed a question about this, but I haven't had the energy to think it through yet.

- How to view Luo Xiang's "Love concrete people, not abstract people"? - Zhihu: Coincidentally, Hannah Arendt's biography was in the last issue of the reading library, and I felt a bit of a fateful connection.

- Musk's Hardcore Server Migration: People living around geniuses will go crazy for their ideas. Whether watching Oppenheimer, Jobs, Musk, or my BOSS, it feels like geniuses have this kind of quality.
- How to improve my parents' understanding: This has always troubled me, and the only improvement during this holiday was getting them to accept foreign films.
- Do the "beep" sounds from pedestrian traffic lights in Hong Kong have practical effects? Why are they not widely adopted in mainland China? - Zhihu: On the way to the service center, I was staring at the traffic lights. I realized that the beeping sounds from Hong Kong's traffic lights are for the visually impaired. I've recently started to become aware of some things I hadn't noticed before.
