I have been struggling with how to score when writing reviews. So I organized a set of criteria for rating works (not limited to the ACG field, although I mainly watch ACG works):
Rating Criteria#
Shocking to My Heart (10 points): The plot, character development, thematic depth, or innovation far exceeds expectations. This rating is quite subjective and often influenced by preconceived notions. For example, "Sunny Boy," "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," "No Game No Life" Volume 6, "Steins;Gate," "The Three-Body Problem."
Benchmark in the Field (9 points): Unique in a certain aspect, hard to find alternatives. Such as "Monogatari Series," "Land of the Lustrous," "From the New World," "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann," "Puella Magi Madoka Magica."
Worth Watching (8 points): Works that are recommended for viewing. Such as "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners," "Code Geass," "Baccano!," "Black Rock Shooter," "Aspiring to be a Magical Girl," "MyGO!!!!!."
Conventional (7 points): No regrets after watching and liked it, but wouldn’t actively recommend it to others. Such as "Girls' Last Tour," "Re," "Little Witch Academia," "The Irregular at Magic High School."
Mixed Reviews (6 points): Some parts are brilliant, but certain plots are uncomfortable. Such as "Kamen Rider Revice," "ALDNOAH.ZERO," "Tokyo Revengers," "Charlotte."
A Waste of Time (5 points): Not worth watching. Many lowbrow fanservice anime fall into this category. Such as "Death Parade," "World End's World Record."
No Evaluation (<4 points): Unwilling to recall the plot, let alone evaluate it.
Note: Douban ratings are usually rounded up.
